Shri Bansi Narayan Temple, the highest Narayan tem Shri Bansi Narayan Temple, the highest Narayan temple in Uttarakhand, opens only once a year on Shravan Purnima (Rakshabandhan). Devotees visit to tie Rakshasutra to Lord Narayana. Located at an elevation of about 3600 meters in Urgam Valley, Chamoli district, it is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The trek to the temple is 20 km round trip from Yogmatra Ecostay to Mulakharak via Bansa village and then to the temple. The route passes through dense forests, lush meadows, and streams, offering magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Nanda Ghunti. Legend has it that Lord Narayana emerged from the underworld at this temple, and Devarishi Narada worships here for 364 days, leaving only Rakshabandhan for human worship.
